Commissioning A Shoot

The Photo Shoot

Location Scouting

Monographs

The curves tantalize and seduce. The chrome glistens, the paint shines. Traditional sculptures never looked this good!

When you commission a shoot on your car or collection, we first speak with you about what you would like the photo session to portray or accomplish. We can recommend a location or travel to your area to find the ideal background to shoot your car as Rolling Sculpture. Location scouting and the shoot typically take one to two days.

Once the photo session is "in the can," the film is developed and we go to work, using our eye to pick the best images that show your car as art. These are then posted on our easy-to-use, secure client site. This allows you to choose the photos you would like to have made into fine art prints, notecards, portfolio sets or monographs from the comfort of your home or office.

A commissioned shoot costs $2,500 for the first day, then $1,750 a day for any additional time. Travel and film expenses are extra.

Should you want to share your enthusiasm and love of your car or collection with family and friends, for an additional fee we also produce boxed notecard sets, elegant photo portfolio sets and custom-made monographs. This last offering is a limited production hand-made book that beautifully presents your car as art while telling its unique story.

A commissioned shoot, notecard set, portfolio set and monograph is the perfect gift for you, or to give to the person who feels they have everything!

The Photo Shoot

Any shoot boils down to this simple question: What would you like the photographs to portray or accomplish? Many clients prefer us to show their car as "art," and thus let our creativity run free. But should you want something else entirely different, we will do our utmost to fulfill your desires.

A typical shoot includes both static and motion photographs, making location scouting extremely important. The car is stationary in static photos, allowing us to find the best angles and most delicious details; these latter items are often works of art unto themselves. We also capture the beauty of the interior and a car’s "heart," its engine.

Motion photography has an entirely different "feel." These photos normally include panning (the photographer is stationary as the car drives by) and tracking (shooting the subject car from another car while both are in motion).

Within two weeks of the shoot’s completion, the images are posted on our private website for you to view. You will be given the site’s address and a password, allowing you to choose your fine art prints at your leisure.

The first time any image is chosen for printing, it takes approximately two to three weeks before it is shipped (we typically do test prints to ensure optimal color and density). Any subsequent orders of the image will be sent within five days. All prints are properly matted, signed and packed before being sent by UPS.

Do you feel cars are works of art? Now others can see that too, whether it be your personal favorite car or your collection, or a friend or spouse’s.

When you commission a shoot, we first speak with you about what you would like the shoot to portray or accomplish. We then travel to your area to find the ideal background to show your car as Rolling Sculpture. Or, if you prefer, we can use a favorite location such as your home or garage. The location scouting and shoot typically take one to two days.

Location Scouting

Of critical importance to any shoot is the location where the photo session takes place. This cannot be emphasized enough, for finding the right location often takes as much time as the shoot itself.

A key element is having an area that is largely undisturbed by traffic and onlookers. The best motion shots have a background close to at least one side of the road; the resulting "blur" effect gives the sensation of speed.

The size of the area in which we will be working can also be important. If there is enough space to easily move around, this allows us to get up close to the car for wide angle shots, then move back a distance for dramatic long lens photography.

If driving or transporting your car to a location we know is feasible, we have a number of different areas with outstanding backdrops we can recommend. Or if you prefer, we can use a favorite location of yours such as a vista point or your home, estate or garage.

Monographs

Our exclusive, custom-made monographs are the ultimate keepsake on your car and your memories. A monograph can also be the ideal tool to promote your car or collection, or your automotive related business!

These limited production books are hand-made and bound, constructed to the highest standards possible using state-of-the-art printing processes and luxurious glossy papers for bold, lustrous colors. The design is clean and elegant so that the reader will view your car as art.

The monograph starts with a poignant essay on your car. This is followed by a lengthy series of "plates" that depict your car’s photo shoot. The "List of Plates" section has all the plates illustrated side-by-side, allowing for a quick comparison of the images. A reference number is provided on each image to make purchasing fine art prints easy. Your monograph concludes with a biography on the photographer that includes observations on your car’s commissioned shoot.

The ability to customize your monograph is enormous. Each is individually numbered as it is printed, and it is possible to have a special dedication paragraph or page in each individual copy!

The essay’s subject matter is just as unique. It can cover a brief history on the marque and model, a specific history on you and your car, a description of a restoration, or anything that touches your fancy.

Because of the cost, monographs are not for everybody. But if you desire to have your car or collection and your history with it remembered forever, there is no better way than our custom made monographs!
